Paris, May 23rd, 2018:
The prestigious Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore is leading the REIDS (Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator Singapore) project in which METRON will play a key role.
The REIDS initiative has been designed to accelerate the development and commercialization of distributed energy systems in Southeast Asia. A consortium of leading technology companies (hardware and software) builds and operates a fleet of 8 microgrids on an island 8km South of Singapore called Semakau, making REIDS the largest hybrid microgrid test and research platform in the tropics. Such research is especially relevant to the region, in which many islands are experiencing challenges related to energy access and economic development.
Each microgrid deployed on Semakau consists of a specific set of generation systems (wind turbines, solar photovoltaic panels, generators...), storage systems (hydrogen, Li-Ion…) and loads. A flexible desalination plant will be implemented as part of REIDS to study the water-energy nexus in the specific context of remote locations in Asia Southeast.
This REIDS project strengthens Singapore's position as a leading hub for energy management technologies and expertise.
METRON is now positioned at the heart of the REIDS initiative and ambitions in several ways. The company addresses the challenges of smooth interoperability between microgrids which are composed of elements with heterogeneous communication systems. Its role includes monitoring and control of flexible assets (storage systems, generators, desalination plant) in order to achieve real-time optimisations. METRON will as well simulate the operation of a Virtual Power Plant (VPP): energy market data (spot price, demand-response, etc.) will be taken into account to perform the optimal microgrid strategy.
This large-scale experiment enables METRON to implement its smart energy management system for microgrids in the context of a global demonstrator setup by Singapore. It is also a privileged opportunity to interact with the local economic network in a strategic region for the international company that already has an office in Singapore.
About METRON
Founded in 2013, METRON has developed an energy intelligence platform to help industrial factories become energy transparent. By harnessing multiple sources of data generated by industrial systems, METRON Energy Virtual Assistant leverages latest machine learning capabilities and dedicated knowledge bases to proactively identify energy savings opportunities, connect to decentralised energy resources and turn energy into a profit centre. The company has more than 50 experts, data scientists and energy engineers, who help industrial clients in all sectors to maximize value from their energy data and support them with the implementation of energy efficiency optimisations.
