Iveco Group accelerates digital transformation with Industrial IoT
With the support of Hermes Reply, Iveco Group has implemented an Industrial IoT platform to connect plants, optimise production, and enable data-driven decisions.
)
The Challenge
Democratising access to data by implementing an Industrial IoT platform capable of centrally connecting all facilities.
Scenario
Connect systems and enhance data
Iveco Group, a global leader in the automotive sector, has always been synonymous with efficiency and quality in production. It has embraced the challenge of digitalisation to rethink its production model, strengthen competitiveness, and accelerate innovation. The main requirement was to leverage the enormous amount of data generated daily by the plants, transforming it into accessible, integrated, and useful information for continuous improvement. To meet this challenge, the group has initiated a transformation process aimed at building an infrastructure capable of connecting heterogeneous systems, centralising data, and enabling increasingly intelligent, autonomous production supported by artificial intelligence.

THE SOLUTION
A new autonomous Industrial IoT platform
Hermes Reply has collaborated with Iveco Group to develop I3OT, a platform for Industrial IoT designed to support the evolution of production processes towards an increasingly connected, intelligent, and data-driven. The solution allows for the connection of all types of plants, including older facilities, and not limited to modern plants, ensuring full interoperability. The platform leverages an edge-to-cloud architecture to process data directly near production lines, reducing dependence on the cloud and enhancing only the truly useful information.
The integration of artificial intelligence allows for the extraction of real-time insights, improving access to information and simplifying interaction with systems through conversational interfaces that are intuitive. The platform is designed to be used by various operational figures, including operators, maintenance technicians, line managers, and plant managers, with the aim of ensuring simple and immediate access to data.
HOW WE DID IT
A three-level architecture to integrate systems and data
The project started from the analysis of already available production data—such as the status of machines, waste, losses, and events—with the aim of transforming them into useful and usable insights and subsequently enriching the industrial knowledge base. Thus, I3OT was born, a platform developed on Microsoft Azure technologies and based on a multi-level architecture, Edge-to-Cloud.
Sensors, machinery, and PLCs continuously generate operational data. This data is acquired by distributed Edge nodes within the plants, where it undergoes real-time processes of normalisation, cleaning, and enrichment. Relevant data is then transferred to the Cloud level, which hosts the centralised platform for managing and analysing the entire information asset.
On this layer, advanced applications based on multi-agent AI take shape, such as Intelligent Insight, which allows interaction in natural language and makes data analysis simple, immediate, and accessible for all production operators.
