THE challenge
Building a data governance framework capable of ensuring transparency and control across the entire data platform, enabling rationalization and harmonization of KPIs on a global scale.
SCENARIO
A cloud-native evolution to support global growth
Amplifon, a global leader in the hearing care retail market, operates internationally with demanding business functions and rapidly evolving analytics needs. It therefore requires a data platform capable of scaling quickly without compromising reliability or efficiency. In recent years, it has transformed its data platform, moving from a legacy environment to a modern cloud-native architecture.
The transition ensured operational continuity and enabled analytics to scale rapidly across different markets. As adoption increased across countries and functions, the focus moved beyond enablement alone, to improving efficiency, managing costs sustainably, and ensuring greater consistency in how the underlying data behind reports, KPIs, and business analysis are defined and managed.
the solution
A context platform to accelerate governance and AI
Amplifon, with the support of Target Reply, introduced a solution for Data Governance designed as a layer of visibility and governance for the entire corporate data ecosystem.
The platform ensures end-to-end observability of flows and consumption patterns, providing a clear view of how data is produced, transformed, and used. This approach allows teams to manage the architecture as a whole, moving beyond the management of individual assets or isolated reports.
Within this layer, metadata provides a reliable context for analyses supported by Artificial Intelligence. The interaction between AI and the information assets is enabled by an architecture based on MCP (Model Context Protocol), which links metadata to AI agents in a structured, governed way.
In this model, an MCP Server exposes information in a controlled manner, while specialized agents use this context to analyze dependencies, reconstruct transformation logic, and support critical activities such as troubleshooting and impact analysis. Every operation occurs in full compliance with security and governance protocols, including SSO and RBAC controls, ensuring that AI operates exclusively within the defined permission perimeter.
HOW WE DID IT
From end-to-end visibility to streamlining, efficiency, and harmonization
With the support of Target Reply, Amplifon has structured its solution on three key pillars, designed to ensure continuity in governance without slowing down business operations:
End-to-End Visibility and Lineage: Through the scanning of metadata across the entire data platform, the solution makes the dependancies between tables, transformations, pipelines, and reports explicit. This transparency allows teams to anticipate how each change propagates through the system, optimizing the activities of troubleshooting, ticket management, and impact analysis during the development phases.
Guided Rationalization: By starting with this information, it has become possible to initiate a guided rationalization through a combined top-down and bottom-up reading. On the one hand, the report analysis based on usage and similarity (usage & similarity) allows for identifying duplications and consolidation opportunities; on the other hand, complete visibility enables mapping and decommissioning tables and pipelines no longer connected to active consumption.
Data Harmonization:Transparency into lineage and transformation logic allows for comparing KPI definitions across different countries, highlighting any discrepancies and tracing their causes. This facilitates a progressive alignment process on a selected set of indicators, where AI scales the analysis on large volumes while business and data stakeholders maintain guidance on strategic decisions.
