The project at a glance
A bespoke multi agent system, founded on years of platform expertise, is unlocking developer capacity for genuine innovation.
The scenario
„Vorsprung durch Technik“ - in software development, too
In today’s automotive industry, software is no longer just a supporting tool; it is now central to value creation. For Audi, “Vorsprung durch Technik” now also means achieving leadership through software excellence. This extends beyond the vehicles themselves to all background digital processes. The “Used Car Platform” is a testament to this. What began as a replacement for manual Excel processes has evolved into a central trading platform featuring live auctions, a B2B marketplace, and AI-powered price predictions.
Over the years, the platform accumulated a deep layer of legacy knowledge – from proprietary business logic and historically grown architecture decisions to a complex landscape of internal and third-party APIs. As the platform's success grew, so did the operational workload for Audi's IT team – not least because every task required navigating this highly specific legacy context and intricate API environment. Tickets, code reviews, and documentation began to dominate daily work, leaving little room for true innovation. Together with Comsysto Reply - the team that helped shape the platform from day one - Audi set out to change that.
The solution
An autonomous agent ecosystem for the entire SDLC
Today, the platform team utilizes a customized multi-agent workflow, developed by Comsysto Reply and built on GitHub Copilot. Rather than functioning as isolated tools, these agents are deeply woven into the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) – and, crucially, into the platform's unique landscape.
The system’s true power lies in its contextual intelligence. While generic AI assistants know best practices, this system knows this platform. It is fed by a dedicated knowledge base containing years of architecture documentation, historical tickets, API specs, and security guidelines.
The approach
Developers as innovators
The key design principle: the agents handle operational tasks so that humans can focus on strategic aspects. But no agent merges code or makes decisions without a developer’s final approval. The ‘human-in-the-loop’ strategy ensures quality and control. At the same time, the system grows alongside the platform, because agents, the knowledge base, and developers together form a learning unit that not only manages the complexity of the Audi ecosystem but actively develops it further.
The result
More than efficiency: A new innovation model for the "Used Car Platform"
As early as 2021, Comsysto Reply introduced chat-based assistance tools for the “Used Car Platfotm”, providing targeted help for individual tasks. The multi-agent system represents the next leap in development: It doesn’t just change individual procedures but transforms how the entire team works and what it can achieve.
After all, increasing developer productivity is not the actual goal; it is the prerequisite. The freed-up capacity flows directly into what makes the platform strong in the long term: new features, more precise machine learning and AI models, and faster responses to market changes. This creates a new innovation model: AI is not a tool that simply takes over tasks, but as a foundation that turns developers into creators.
