With the launch of the Access 4.0 (A4) platform, developed in collaboration with Reply, Deutsche Telekom is breaking new ground in the construction and provision of networks. The goal of the joint project is to replace conventional hard-wire systems with highly automated and microservice-based technologies.
Deutsche Telekom is working with Reply to develop the Access 4.0 programme, which takes advantage of open source to create a scalable solution making the control, management, and operation of networks more scalable, flexible and economically sustainable.
Teaming up with Reply as its co-development partner, Deutsche Telekom is taking the next step towards bringing its new backhaul generation to life. Deutsche Telekom’s program Access 4.0 plans to deploy geographically distributed mini data centers at the network edge to produce broadband Internet and VPN access for their customers.
In 2017 Reply worked on an R&D project to reproduce the CORD reference design from the ONF. In 2020 and 2021 Reply implemented a Lab Trial of a disaggregated OLT solution based on ONF VOLTHA v2.8 and brought to the ONF the TIM service model implementation, that today is successfully included in the latest v2.9 LTS. Today, Next Reply is implementing a PoC on the topic, where 50+ friendly subscribers will be activated.
Since 2018 Reply is co-developing software for the Deutsche Telekom Access 4.0 project for an automated ONF SEBA-like deployment. In Dec 2020, for the first time ever, a subscriber with a disaggregated broadband access was activated successfully.
The Broadband Forum (BBF) is an open, non-profit industry organization composed of the industry’s leading broadband operators, vendors, and thought leaders who are shaping the future of broadband. Reply is an active member and is collaborating with the BBF in the context of the CloudCO work stream within the SDN/NFV WA since 2014. Many contributions throughout the years were produced and in 2021, has been selected to receive an Outstanding Contributor award. Next Reply will continue the important work in the Broadband Forum standardization activities.
The Open Networking Foundation (ONF) is a non-profit operator led consortium driving transformation of network infrastructure and carrier business models through applied research, development, advocacy, and education. Reply is collaborating with the ONF in the context of the VOLTHA reference architecture since 2019. In 2021 Reply worked closely with the ONF to test and brought the TIM service model implementation in the ONF codebase, that today is successfully included in the latest v2.9 LTS.
