Sentryo set to be acquired by Cisco

London, 6 June 2019

Breed Reply, an investor in Internet of Things (IoT) businesses, is pleased to announce that Cisco has announced its intention to acquire Sentryo. Details of Cisco’s plans can be found here

Breed Reply first invested in Sentryo in 2016, and the Company has gone from strength to strength. Sentryo has been a market pioneer for cybersecurity protection of critical infrastructure and industrial control systems. Sentryo’s industrial IoT/OT technology solution helps companies like those in the energy, manufacturing, oil and gas and transportation sectors to ensure the resilience of their networks and guard against cyber security attacks.

The acquisition forms part of Cisco’s IoT strategy. According to Rob Salvagno, VP Global Corporate Development in his blog - IoT holds tremendous potential for companies to increase their productivity, gain access to deep intelligence and create new revenue opportunities. At the same time many organizations struggle with deploying IoT projects because they can’t scale to production and find it difficult to manage and secure a rapidly expanding infrastructure. To help our customers address this challenge, I am pleased to announce Cisco’s intent to acquire Sentryo.

Cisco and Sentryo have previously partnered to incorporate Sentryo’s Edge Sensor and Cisco’s industrial networking hardware and its IOx application framework. This has enabled organisations to secure their industrial infrastructure. Further details of Cisco’s thoughts on security can be found here

As well as funding, Breed Reply has worked closely with Sentryo’s management to help accelerate the Company’s development including working to achieve other successful funding rounds. Sentryo is one of a number of companies that offer IoT security solutions within the Breed Reply investment portfolio, which is entirely focused on IoT. The portfolio covers a number of different sectors which are increasingly adopting IoT technology including Health & Well-being, Smart Buildings & Cities, Industrial IoT and Cyber Security

Emanuele Angelidis, CEO of Breed Reply, said : “Cisco’s intention to acquire Sentryo is a tribute to the quality of Sentryo’s team and their solution, but also shows the increasing importance of IoT and IoT security. We established the Breed Reply investment fund, because we believe that IoT has the potential to change business models and generate significant returns. We are very excited for the Sentryo team, with whom we work very closely, and that a market-leader like Cisco is making such significant investments in the IoT industry, demonstrates its growing significance.”

Challenges of Pandemic and Brexit means improving productivity is vital – AI can be a critical tool

The UK economy has had easier times. Over the last two years, it has had to weather the global impact of the pandemic, and closer to home, the fundamental change to its trading relationships and supply chains caused by Brexit. With inflation in the ascendancy, energy costs on the rise, and threats from all sides such as Russian aggression in the East, it isn't going to get any easier. However, this moment of acute problems could be the driver of AI's greater adoption to meet the challenges.
