SCENARIO

Red Reply is the Germany's first Oracle Managed Service Provider (MSP) with a proven track record of developing and deploying Oracle Unlimited applications, such as Siebel, on the leading IaaS and PaaS cloud platforms.

Red Reply, as a long-standing partner of the largest German automobile manufacturer, developed and integrated a Fleet Management System for its customer in the early 2000s. Over the past 15 years, Red Reply has been responsible for the further development and continuous modernization of the system. In 2016/2017, Red Reply has been asked to innovate the system.

In addition, the customer had made further challenges to Red Reply creativity:

  • Reduce costs
  • Improve the quality of the Service
  • Improve overall system performance
  • Be more innovative

The solution was based on the proven Red Reply AMS tool box, which they introduced together with another customer (Germany's largest airline).


SOLUTION

In order to manage the upcoming challenges Red Reply had to take over the responsibility on all levels of the full Application and Service Stack. In the best sense, Red Reply’s offer was based on the fact that the customer is willing to exchange all other involved service providers (e.g. Data Center Provider, 2nd Level Support), with Red Reply and in this way to get by it a full managed application service from a single source.

Then, Red Reply took over the second level support on the existing infrastructure and stabilized the application within a very short time and eliminated unexpected downtimes, that had happened in the past. For the first time in years, there was a positive feedback directly from the end users .


  • Improve the quality of the Service
    Based on the high security requirements of the customer was a migration into the Oracle public Cloud not an option. Together with the customer Red reply decided to choose the Oracle Cloud@Customer, as the new Infrastructure layer of the new solution.
  • Reduce costs
    As the customer consolidates and shrinks its own data center capacity worldwide, the Cloud Machine could not be placed in its natural environment, the customer data center. Instead, Red Reply hosts the OCC in its own premise at one of the largest commercial data center providers in Frankfurt am Main, directly on the German backbone of the Internet, the node with the highest data throughput worldwide. Red Reply, as an Oracle MSP, then ordered the latest generation (X6) of Oracle Cloud@Customer, and after a few months waiting time the racks were delivered to Red Reply’s data center. The first test installations and migrations showed very fast that the old Oracle sales story worked wonderfully once again by running with Oracle Products on Oracle Hardware. Trhough the migration of the application to the Oracle Cloud Machine, Red Reply was able to achieve a significant cost reduction for hosting the application and furthermore the performance of the application improved significantly, again for the first time in years the end users are very satisfied with the performance.
  • Improve overall system performance
    Especially the analytics (BI) part of the application became more and more difficult to operate and further develop over the lifetime of the application. Red Reply recommended the customer to modernize the Oracle BI (OBIEE) stack of the application. With this new technology (Oracle Data Visualization) they are able to introduce real-time reporting directly on the transaction processing data base. This offers the customer the possibility to use state of the art analytics tools and to eliminate the complexity of daily ETL loads. With this measure Red Reply managed to eliminate also the last point on the bucket list and become as well the first customer worldwide which uses OAC on an Oracle Cloud@Customer customer
  • Be more innovative
    All these measures together have led to an aging system that is ready to meet the challenges of the coming years. Red Reply is currently working on migrating the customer's next Fleet Management Application to Oracle Cloud@Customer. In this case it is not an Oracle application (except for the underlying database), which means that the infrastructure is ready to take over every conceivable workload.
