Cut energy costs by up to 70 per cent: NEXAIRA.CORE transforms existing hardware and operational data into actionable insights, enabling continuous, autonomous energy optimisation.
The scenario
Systems that waste energy because they lack context
Ventilation, heating and cooling systems are among the largest energy consumers in buildings and technical infrastructure. In most cases, they operate according to rigid rules, running at maximum capacity even when a fraction of that output would suffice. Failures occur unexpectedly and maintenance is scheduled according to a fixed calendar rather than actual demand.
This is precisely the challenge that ebm-papst neo set out to solve. While the manufacturer’s fans were highly reliable, the lack of real-time feedback made ongoing optimisation and predictive maintenance impossible.
The solution
From a connected fan to a self-learning system
With NEXAIRA.CORE, ebm-papst neo has developed an IoT platform that connects ventilation, heating and cooling systems, and centrally analyses their operational data. This analysis integrates ebm-papst neo’s system and application expertise through proprietary digital service algorithms. Concept Reply and Storm Reply provided critical engineering support by building the cloud IT infrastructure and backend and migrating these algorithms to a scalable cloud environment.
The technology behind
A digital twin as the foundation for decision-making
The solution is built on a scalable AWS cloud architecture. Via a gateway controller, NEXAIRA.CORE ingests operational data from all connected fans and ventilation components, aggregates it in the cloud and unifies it into a digital twin. This virtual replica provides a real-time view of system health, detects anomalies early and serves as the data foundation for precise forecasts and optimisation alerts. Managed services, Kubernetes and selected open-source components ensure the architecture remains highly flexible and can scale effortlessly to meet growing demands.
The result
Lower consumption, fewer outages, better data
NEXAIRA.CORE identifies operational inefficiencies and derives concrete optimisation steps. When combined with a fan retrofit, it unlocks energy savings of up to 70 per cent compared to conventionally controlled systems. Unplanned downtime drops significantly as the platform flags wear and anomalies early on and delivers clear, actionable recommendations.
ebm-papst neo is collaborating with Concept Reply and Storm Reply to advance the NEXAIRA digital ecosystem. Future releases will integrate native AI models that automatically adjust operating parameters. By factoring in real-time weather forecasts and predicted workload patterns, these models will optimise energy consumption without manual intervention. For users, every connected system makes the platform smarter, delivering a competitive advantage that grows over time.
ebm-papst neo, an ebm-papst Group company, focuses on developing sustainable digital solutions and data-driven business models for the future of ventilation, heating, and cooling technology. Since 2017, the team has worked to transform connected devices and buildings into smarter, more efficient, and easier-to-maintain systems through the digitization, visualization, and optimization of operational data. Through this approach, ebm-papst neo delivers tangible customer value worldwide by improving efficiency, extending equipment lifespans, and enhancing user experience across fan-based applications.
