Towards increasingly digital insurance services

UnipolSai Assicurzioni S.p.A. is the insurance company of the Unipol Group, a leader in the sale of non-life insurance policies in Italy and, in particular, the R.C. Auto. Over the years, the company has created several digital touch points to allow its customers access to the main services, such as the visualisation of policy data, the generation and purchase of a quote and the reporting of a claim.

In this process of digital transformation, UnipolSai decided to integrate a solution that could offer all these services in a single “Super App”.


A Super App for insurance services and more

The UnipolSai Super App represents the cornerstone of a new ecosystem of highly integrated applications. To ensure an optimal user experience, a back-end architecture design has been created independent of the underlying legacy systems. This feature guarantees access to services 24 hours a day, robustness, flexibility and optimal performance, while maintaining the consistency of the data.

The App development roadmap involves the progressive expansion of services dedicated to all users through a “self” channel. This includes direct sales and omnichannel sales, as well as a series of “beyond insurance” services, such as the payment of parking, supplies and electronic tolls.


Modular architecture and a new layer of micro-services

A highly flexible modular architecture has been implemented, capable of managing multi-app scenarios with parallel developments. This guarantees the reusability of the source code, based on technical or functional needs and a high level of maintainability. In addition, from a cloud-native perspective, the channel microservices layer (known as BFF) and the specific application components have been modernised.

In order to standardise the application landscape of the new App ecosystem, and the entire world of digital touch points, an archetype was then created that incorporates all the functionalities through libraries shared between the back-end components. In addition, a remake of all the flows has been carried out in terms of UX/UI. A sophisticated analytics, operational and behavioural system, allows us to understand how the app is used but above all how to continue improving its user experience.
