Case Study

The Savings Museum: learning through play

Saving is a serious business, but it can be made into a game. The Savings Museum is unique in Europe; it aims to explain finance and economics in an interesting, entertaining way to children and families.

Knowing, learning and experimenting: these are the guiding themes of an innovative project that discusses not only savings and investments but also history, film and literature, by educating and entertaining through constant interaction with tools and applications. The museum is a multimedia lab that caters for a wide range of visitors and that keeps evolving by continually refreshing its content.

Various arms of Reply group have contributed to the overall project’s rich conceptual and technological content. Discovery Reply installed the multimedia information points; Forge Reply produced the wealth of interactive games; and Bitmama devised and created the service tools to support the visit itinerary. Forge Reply, assisted by Bitmama, developed three interactive applications for users to test their new knowledge: Smart Trader, to taste the excitement of investment decision-making by reliving the main events of the last 20 years; Debby & Friends, to explore and learn more about borrowing to invest, in various guises; and Financial Timeline, to review 30 years of recent history with a financial analyst’s beady eye.

Meanwhile, Bitmama, working with Forge Reply, has devised the “ant game”, a fresh take on the classic “goose game” (akin to snakes and ladders), where players try their luck and test their financial acumen through quiz questions. The game, linked to the competition in the La Stampa newspaper, was the teaser event that heralded the museum’s inauguration.
