Modern Customer Communication: From the Reference Brochure to the App

FOCUS ON: Press Release, Telco & Media,

Munich, 23.10.2012

Cluster Reply develops an app for Voith Paper to interactively present paper machines.

Classic machine and system builders are also searching for new ways to provide their customers with quick and interactive, up-to-date information about their products and services. That’s why Cluster Reply has taken over 500 pages of numerous reference brochures from Voith Paper and integrated them into an interactive and streamlined app. Current and prospective customers of the manufacturer Voith can now access the descriptions for the most powerful paper manufacturing machines with an Apple iPad. The app is called Paper Machine References, or simply: “PM-References”. The app is available free of charge from the Apple App Store.

Voith Paper is a globally leading supplier of machines for the manufacture of graphic paper, carton and packaging paper, hygiene paper as well as special paper. The bulk of paper produced around the world is produced on Voith machines. Voith Paper has a reference brochure for every paper grade to illustrate the most powerful and successful machines in the world. The “World Class References” brochures have been digitized and can now be perused comfortably on a hand-held device. The app also provides additional information.

The app works offline. This means the contents can be read anywhere and at any time. An added benefit of the offline version is that this can be implemented quickly and inexpensively without backend or access management.

Along with the demanding design, the user interface designed by Cluster Reply also stands out with new, innovative operating elements such as the multi-select slider for selecting filter criteria. The information required for the app was extracted from the Voith System using Microsoft technology and transformed into the target format for the app, where it was then embedded in the iOS database.

“The technical implementation of the app had the goal of offering short reaction times for a high degree of interactivity”, explained the responsible project manager Dr Andreas Bittner from Cluster Reply.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our customers this modern and innovative version of our reference brochures. The brochures will continue to be available on paper. But, as machine manufacturers, we want to keep up with the times and show that even information about paper machines can be provided skillfully in an app. Cluster Reply has developed a professional and forward-looking app, which is a considerable help in credibly presenting our claim of innovative power to our customers”, said Anja Zittlow, Head of Brand Communications at Voith Paper.

Due to the global structure of the Voith company, the app has been created in English. The app is available from the Apple App Store.
