A leading company in design and production of electrical equipment, needed to assess the possible financial benefits generated by adopting Microsoft’s Active Directory as an alternative to its existing directory systems. Reply was able to provide an effective, analytical solution to the client’s needs by using a type of analysis known as REJ – Rapid Economic Justification - to obtain a quick overview of a specific IT project’s costs and benefits.
The requested assessment aimed to highlight the real, assessable financial advantages (business benefits) for the company in terms of reducing costs and/or improving company performance as well as offering possible technical motivations. Calculating ROI (Return on Investment) and payback time are two all-important factors in formulating a rapid economic justification of the planned investment.
An analysis of corporate information was carried out by interviewing various figures working in the IT and administration departments (over a 3-day period) and using a methodology already been thoroughly tried and tested on numerous occasions. This made it possible to collect all information related to information systems’ working methods and IT infrastructure maintenance costs.
A plan was then drawn up which included Microsoft’s Directory Service as a replacement for similar existing tools.
An analytical comparison of current management costs compared to the business and technical benefits linked to use of the Active Directory made it possible to forecast major benefits for the company from a technical and financial standpoint. The investment offered improved performance in the IT area and would pay for itself in just 18 months.
