Stellantis accelerates the transformation of vehicle logistics
A global, scalable and real-time platform to orchestrate vehicle logistics and support more integrated, connected and data-driven processes.
)
THE challenge
Harmonising global shipment flows for ready-for-market vehicles, introducing standardised processes without impacting operations.
SCENARIO
Connecting a global logistics ecosystem
In the automotive sector, vehicle distribution requires the coordination of manufacturing plants, yards, ports, interchange points, tax systems and logistics partners across the globe. Stellantis, formed from the merger of FCA and PSA and today one of the world’s leading automotive groups with 14 brands, was managing a vehicle logistics ecosystem fragmented across different platforms, flows and local applications.
In this context, the objective was to converge processes and systems into a more integrated operating model, supported by a global digital backbone capable of standardising operations, increasing synergies and strengthening end-to-end visibility. This need led to a transformation programme designed to orchestrate the main vehicle logistics processes, from planning to yard operations and claims, while ensuring consistent data, integration with legacy systems and operational continuity.
the solution
End-to-end vehicle logistics
Silicon Shoring Reply supported Stellantis in defining and implementing an integrated ecosystem for outbound vehicle logistics, based on two dedicated vertical platforms: OBT STELLA, for integrated logistics process management, and OBC, supporting yard and plant compound operations.
OBT STELLA consolidates the main activities of the logistics cycle into a single functional perimeter: planning, transport, provider orders, interaction with third parties, yard operations and claims management. The solution combines process expertise, system convergence and application modernisation, optimising existing flows and progressively integrating the ex-PSA and ex-FCA perimeters through a common data model, shared rules and an architecture capable of connecting to hundreds of interfaces with different systems and logistics providers.
OBC completes the operational layer in the field, supporting movements, vehicle statuses, operational devices and integrations with yard tools, while progressively replacing local or legacy applications. From a technology perspective, the programme introduces a scalable cloud architecture based on microservices, APIs, event streaming and real-time communications. The result is a global yet configurable digital backbone, able to support local requirements and common governance of logistics data.
HOW WE DID IT
Cloud modernisation, event streaming and incremental rollout
Silicon Shoring Reply supported the programme through parallel and coordinated workstreams: analysis of existing processes and flows, redesign of the operating model, functional convergence on OBT STELLA, extension of OBC to plants and yards, and progressive integration with the Stellantis ecosystem, market by market.
Delivery was organised through monthly releases, with a dedicated branching model, structured testing and a strong focus on business continuity. In parallel, infrastructure modernisation created the conditions for greater scalability and stronger control over future evolution, while OBC was released with a first pilot in around five to six months and then progressively extended across multiple locations.
The project’s value lies in the ability to modernise vehicle logistics systems by integrating processes, data and operations in real time, thanks to established automotive expertise and end-to-end programme governance.
