IBM launches Indian app development centre

IBM has announced the launch of a brand new facility called MobileFirst for iOS Garage, which is located in Bengaluru, India, and is designed to enable the design, development, implementation, testing, maintenance and delivery of enterprise apps to be carried out from one place.

This new centre is set to be deployed by IBM as a worldwide iOS app development hub – making it one of five such facilities that the company has overall. The others are located in Toronto, Cupertino, Chicago and Atlanta, and the new Bengaluru facility will collaborate on projects with them. IBM has also confirmed that it is intending to launch satellite hubs in Romania, China and Brazil at some point.

For the past two years, IBM has had a link-up with Apple, leading to the creation of over 100 apps aimed at 15 different enterprise sectors. Healthcare, retail, insurance, banking, transportation and travel are among the major industries that it has serviced and the IBM Apple link-up general manager, Mahmoud Naghshineh, said that IBM’s team in India had been heavily involved in more than half of the apps developed.

He went on to state that the new centre in Bengaluru was home to the highest number of Swift developers of any facility in the company’s worldwide network.

The Global Business Services VP at IBM added:

“The Bengaluru facility brings in several capabilities to the front end user experience, the way the actual app development is done and the integration of back-end systems for our clients.”
