Background

Sainsbury's is the second largest chain of supermarkets in the UK with a 16% share of the supermarket sector. Sainsbury’s Checkouts Platform was restructuring in pursuit of superior Agile delivery.

The client’s goal was to create solutions that simplified and accelerated the checkout process across all channels. As the final step in the customer journey, the checkout process is complex and highly significant. Therefore it was vital to give it the right priority and attention.

Approach

Retail Reply supported the Senior Product owner to transition Checkouts by embedding new knowledge and capability within the team, to create an effective setting for future success, with a focus on re engineering and configuration.

This enabled Sainsbury’s to focus on high value activities and key strategic issues.

The results

A unified configurations backlog with overall checkouts platform backlog for effective product prioritization. Delivery processes were reengineered for less friction and enhanced efficiency. Structured EPICs, Streams, and Themes for clearer understanding of activities and more effective prioritization. Intense focus on the high priority activities which created the perfect environment for delivery at pace.
