With an impressive growth of 22% in shipments in 2023 compared to the previous year, the pressing need to optimize and digitalize the phases of the Supply Chain clearly emerges.

Pharmacies, in particular, confirm themselves as the main destination for shipments, reflecting a revision in procurement models. “45% of shipments are directed to pharmacies compared to reduced volumes directed to wholesalers, served by 12% of shipments. Lombardy remains the main point of origin, but Lazio is growing significantly with a value of 24%, preceded only by the 56% from Lombardy.”

These, and many others, are the interesting results that emerged from the survey conducted by the "Gino Marchet" Contract Logistics Observatory of the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano, carried out in collaboration with the Dafne Consortium, during the conference “Healthcare Logistics: the strategy at the center” held in Milan in 2024.

The strategic importance of logistics in the healthcare sector is further confirmed by a survey from the Contract Logistics Observatory on 55 Italian hospital facilities, which represent 20% of national beds. Over 70% of these facilities identify logistics as a crucial element for the efficiency of clinical activities, a perception that rises to 93% among professionals such as Pharmacy Directors, Purchasing Directors, and Logistics Managers.

These results illuminate the scenario and the urgent need for a prompt response from the Italian healthcare system.
