Payments giant Visa has set up a brand new tech hub in London, which is set to be used for the application of innovative technologies – including biometrics, virtual reality and the Internet of Things – to the company’s payments services.
This new facility has been called the Visa Innovation Centre and the firm will deploy it for collaborations with suppliers of IT, retail sector clients and financial services in the development of cutting-edge digital solutions for real-world issues. Live demonstrations showing these being applied to payment scenarios, like ordering groceries or purchasing car insurance, will be featured at the centre.
The new London tech centre follows on from similar facilities that Visa has opened in Singapore, San Francisco, Dubai and Berlin. The company states that these are intended to offer spaces for the encouragement of fast prototyping, experimentation and dynamic collaboration.
Visa also confirmed that European fintech developers will now be able to use its Developer Platform to assist them in the creation of apps via documentation, development kits and Visa’s APIs.
Rajesh Agrawal, Deputy Business Mayor and entrepreneur, stated: “London is a global fintech leader because we have been able to combine our traditional strength in financial services with our growing talent for tech and our innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. I understand that businesses need a little bit of help to turn the kernel of a good idea into something truly transformative.”
