Botswana becomes the latest country to roll out TRVST
Solidsoft Reply is proud to announce that TRVST is now live in Botswana. This marks the fourth country to onboard the system, following successful implementations in Rwanda, Nigeria, and Nepal. Moreover, this milestone represents another step forward in the fight against falsified medicines and the strengthening of supply chain security in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Botswana began its TRVST onboarding journey in July 2024, followed by a successful trial in November 2024. The national rollout, which focused on logistics operations at the district level, was implemented in early February 2025.
Since the nationwide rollout, nearly 1,000 scans have been conducted across Botswana, ensuring greater traceability and verification of medicines. One of the key challenges during implementation were the pro scanners to support the verification efforts, a task led and overcome by the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BOMRA).
Wapapha Nthomiwa, Post-Marketing Surveillance Coordinator at BOMRA, commented: “Once more, thanks for supporting this successful rollout. We remain hopeful for more successful, coordinated rollouts in the future.”
Looking ahead, BOMRA plans to distribute additional scanners to District Health Management Team (DHMT) warehouses and continue expanding TRVST’s reach.
With 1 in 10 medicines in LMICs being fake and the illegal medicines trade being valued at $30.5 billion annually, the TRVST rollout is a critical intervention to safeguard public health. By providing real-time verification of medicines, TRVST helps prevent fake drugs from entering healthcare systems.
TRVST already has some significant manufacturers connected with healthy engagement for future onboarding from the rest of the community. Seven more countries are also expected to join the system by the end of 2025, with more in the pipeline. Solidsoft Reply is committed to its partnership with UNICEF to accelerate this rollout, expanding TRVST’s impact to protect more lives.
Solidsoft Reply, in partnership with UNICEF and the Verification and Traceability Initiative (VTI), has developed TRVST (pronounced ‘Trust’), a secure, scalable and global traceability and verification system designed to detect falsified vaccines and medicinal products within the supply chain. By supporting a wide range of essential medicines, from vaccines to antimalarials, TRVST helps strengthen trust in healthcare systems worldwide.
