The Complete Guide to Yammer

How to make your network a success

Looking to migrate to Yammer? Perhaps you’re already using Yammer but feel you’re not getting the results you expect. Or maybe you’ve got a mature Yammer network but it could do with a bit of a shakeup. Our complete guide to Yammer will take you through the 4 core stages of the Yammer lifecycle – Migration, Launch, Re-Launch, Maturity.

1. Migration

The first step in any Yammer journey is always to get onto Yammer. In situations where you already have a social platform however, a migration is required (sometimes even Yammer to Yammer). The challenge is knowing if Yammer is right for you, the tools to utilise but most importantly, how and what content to shift onto Yammer to ensure you’re most valuable conversations are retained.

2. Launch

Taking the time to launch your Yammer network, well, with the right plans and people in place, means you’re much more likely to succeed. It’s too easy to simply turn on Yammer and hope that people will use it. But easy isn’t always best. You’re building something extremely valuable; make sure you’ve got everything in place to do it well, not just a crinkled to-do list on your desk that says ‘Do Yammer!’ and ‘Buy Cheese!’ written on the back of an old receipt.

3. Re-Launch

Perhaps you’ve noticed that you’re not getting the collaboration and energy you hoped for within your network. Or perhaps a previous team did an unsuccessful launch a few years ago and Yammer didn’t get any traction. It’s normal for Yammer to take a while to bed in but sometimes you need to re-launch Yammer into the business to start getting the most out of it.

4. Maturity

Imagine ideas flowing around your organisation quickly, easily and effectively. Everyone co-owning a goldmine of knowledge, enabling people to get and share information, ideas, answers and expertise straight away. This is what a mature Yammer network looks like - invaluable in achieving your organisational objectives.
