Mac Office 365 toolbar app launched by Microsoft

FOCUS ON: News, Office 365,

Microsoft has announced it is releasing a brand new toolbar app designed for the Mac operating system, and which can be plugged directly into Office 365 – with the name of this application being ‘My Workspace’.

The purpose of this new app is to ensure the menu bar for the Mac operating system will allow those using it to get access to information, files and apps more quickly. The product can be downloaded at no cost to the user and has been developed as a result of the project called Microsoft Garage. This was set up by the tech firm to be a place where experimental ideas could be turned into new solutions. My Workspace is being reported to have been the brainchild of some Microsoft interns, and to have taken a period of around four months to produce.

It will be the first product designed specifically for the Mac operating system Microsoft Garage has come up with, although it has previously produced some items that were accessible on devices that run via iOS. Those who wish to make use of the new app will be able to find it within the toolbar section. Once they have opened it up, they will find a number of useful features. Among these are calendar item lists, which will enable the user to RSVP to key business events or take part in business meetings via Skype. Another feature of the app is an at-a-glance overview of the user’s working day.

Any business files the user has been working on in the recent past are also displayed by the app in the form of a list. This feature means it has some similarity to the likes of Microsoft OneNote or Dropbox. The files the user considers to be of particular importance can either be pinned to this list or simply opened directly through the My Workspace app. Furthermore, it also contains some quick routes to frequently used Office 365 settings, as well as the option of pinning Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other Office Mac apps.

Microsoft made the launch of this latest product public via a video intended to introduce it to people, as well as with a website that offers more detailed information. The latter states:
“After talking to busy people, the team narrowed down the main things that help a person stay organised throughout a busy day: people responded en masse that they were missing an at-a-glance view of their day and often lose track of shared files. My Workspace was born. There is nothing like this on the Mac platform for the Office 365 suite.”

We are sure users of Office 365 via Mac will find this new app to be a really valuable addition to their working lives. We also feel the solutions we build here at WM Reply fit this bill, so why not get in touch for more details?
