CLOUD INTEGRATION FOR TIVÙSAT

Technology Reply create the new integration platform for Tivùsat on Oracle Cloud.

TIVÙ SAT

Tivù S.r.l. is the company that manages tivùsat, the first free digital satellite platform that enable the vision of free tv also on areas not covered by digital terrestrial signal.

This digital satellite platform allows access to the main Italian and foreign television networks through the use of a special satellite decoder or televisions equipped with a CAM module. Within these devices, proprietary smartcards are inserted to allow viewing of the various channels, enabling the decrypting process of the tivùsat satellite signal using appropriate software keys. The process of enabling and disabling these smartcards is managed both by Call Center of Tivù, and by self-care channel like Web or IVR. The integration of these (heterogeneous) communication channels with the tivùsat backend systems that manage the Tivù SmartCards, both in logistic terms and in provisioning terms, has been prepared by Technology Reply initially on premise, through the implementation of an integration middleware based on Oracle SOA Suite 11g and on a series of Java Web Services and Java Web Applications. With the exception of the CRM component built right away through a SaaS platform in the Cloud, the entire integration and backend architecture were hosted on Premise by a third party, with limitation on the autonomy of Tivù in the management of systems within its competence.

With the need for ever greater technological and operational autonomy, Tivù opted for the migration and construction of a new architectural infrastructure based entirely on Oracle Cloud to meet all the internal requirements. All the services and integration processes with SmartCards (Activation, Suspension, Reactivation, Cancellation, Replacement) were in particular migrated and re-implemented through Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), a low code platform that enables the realization of orchestration flows. All the Java Web Applications and Java Web Services at support of the architecture have been migrated to dedicate Oracle Virtual Machines (OVMs) managed on Oracle Cloud.

Technology Reply was responsible for coordinating and implementing both the entire infrastructure setup on Oracle Cloud (IaaS and PaaS), and the implementation of services and orchestration processes through OIC, as well as porting custom Java components on OVM. The entire project has been realized taking care of the following assumptions and constraints:

  • the On Premise architecture must be replaced with an On Cloud architecture in the most transparent way possible for the channels (CRM, WEB and IVR)
  • services exposed On Cloud must guarantee authentication and authorization policies to maximize the security of the infrastructure
  • it is necessary to guarantee the management of errors, and use special tools for resubmitting the processes (fault policy)
  • monitoring of processes and services must be guaranteed

SOLUTION

Technology Reply has proposed for Tivù the migration from Oracle SOA Suite 11g on premise, to a solution based on Oracle Cloud and in particular to Oracle Integration Cloud . These cloud based solutions have made it possible to fully cover both the functional and non- functional requirements. Oracle Integration Cloud in particular, thanks to its low-code platform features, has allowed to drastically reduce the time-to- market necessary for the implementation of tivùsat integration processes. Its features out of the box of error management, process recovery, and process monitoring have enabled control dashboards to be obtained without any implementation effort, which facilitates the recurring operations required in the production environment. Thanks also to the support of all the main market standards, it was possible with Oracle Integration Cloud to maintain the interfaces of the services unchanged, limiting the impacts on calling channels to endpoint change and to the introduction of credentials safety.

Moreover, the set of innumerable native adapters on Oracle Integration Cloud for all the main cloud solutions, will enable Tivù to introduce additional processes and features that can extend their business quickly and safely.

ADVANTAGES

Using a solution based entirely on Oracle Cloud it was possible:
reduce infrastructure and management costs compared to the costs deriving from the on premise infrastructure
reduce time to market thanks to the speed of infrastructure setup and the use of low code platforms
limit impacts on all channels by keeping interfaces unaltered
through "out of the box" feature of OIC it was possible to manage errors and recover the execution of faulty processes
as well as monitor processes including the setup of alerts that enable notifications in case of disservice
introduce security policies to access services credentials through the use of Oracle Identity Cloud component
