EU Data Act: From obligation to your competitive advantage

The EU Data Act requires you to make sensor data from your machines accessible. We help you turn this obligation into real business value. On AWS, we build a data platform that ensures compliance and enables new services before anyone else does.

1 data product live on a pilot line with real data and user flow

For machine and plant builders:

Share product data securely, stay compliant and monetize as the first.

CHALLENGE

The Data Act puts you under pressure

Anyone selling machines or equipment in the EU must now provide users with free access to their operational data. For products placed on the market after September 12, 2026, access is required "by design." While many companies collect data, they do not provide it in real-time and machine-readable formats. At the same time, a user can forward this data to competitors – a real risk that threatens their own service revenues.

SOLUTION APPROACH - CHANGE IN WORKING LIFE

First monetize, including compliance

TECHNIQUE BEHIND

The platform behind it: Edge to Cloud on AWS

We connect the operational technology of your machines (OT) with a modern data platform in the cloud. At the edge of production, we capture signals using established industrial standards such as OPC UA, MQTT, and IO-Link, and reliably transmit them to the AWS cloud. There, the data is structured, cataloged, and provided with clear access rules. "Interoperability" means that machines from different manufacturers are understood through a common language (e.g., OPC UA Companion Specs). Based on this, the actual data products are created. Analyses, dashboards, and AI models refine raw data into insights. A permissions and sharing model ensures that only the data required by the Data Act flows – valuable knowledge remains protected. Everything runs in European AWS regions and supports requirements such as GDPR and NIS2.

PRACTICE EXAMPLE

Proven at an industrial scale

A leading provider in measurement and process technology wanted to fundamentally modernize the monitoring and maintenance of its machines – such as vibration screens and pneumatic conveyor systems. The sensors have always provided data, but collection, transmission, and evaluation were outdated. Together, we built an IIoT solution on AWS: Machine data is sent to the cloud via AWS IoT Greengrass, stored there with Amazon Timestream, and evaluated through serverless services. This IIoT foundation – collection, secure transmission, role-based real-time access – is exactly the technical basis that the Data Act requires as a prerequisite. A dashboard visualizes the "health status" of the machines and automatically alerts in case of threshold exceedances. A role and rights concept gives end customers worldwide secure access to real-time data. Thus, a monitoring task evolved into a new, marketable service offering – an opportunity born from obligation.

Your benefits at a glance

You secure the first-mover advantage with your own data, reduce your compliance risk, and create the foundation for new, recurring revenues.

Start with a clear situation picture

Transform the Data Act obligation into an advantage. In a brief assessment, we will evaluate your starting position together, identify specific gaps and value opportunities, and transparently estimate effort and business impact. This way, you will have a solid foundation for the next step – without obligation.
