Aerial Delivery Solutions
Engineering precision, safety and reliability for air launched systems
Modern defence operations rely increasingly on the rapid, safe and accurate delivery of equipment, supplies and specialist payloads from the air. Whatever the mission, aerial delivery systems must operate reliably under demanding conditions, comply with stringent airworthiness and safety regulations, and integrate seamlessly with evolving aircraft platforms.
Across the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD), delivery teams are responsible for ensuring that aerial delivery systems within the portfolio meets performance, safety and certification standards throughout their lifecycles. As new technologies emerge and operational requirements shift, these teams require robust technical, engineering and assurance support. With internal resources stretched, the MOD looked for a trusted partner to deliver independent expertise, testing oversight and technical analysis. The challenge was to provide consistent, dependable assurance without disrupting ongoing development and operational timelines.
Supporting delivery teams
RED Scientific Reply Ltd (RED) supports MOD teams responsible for air‑launched equipment and parachute delivery systems. Our solution combined engineering analysis, safety and airworthiness support, and independent verification of supplier deliverables. We conducted detailed assessments of design data, performance evidence and compliance documentation supplied by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), ensuring alignment with Defence Airworthiness Authority (DAA) regulations and relevant Joint Service Publications (JSPs).
We supported production and review of key artefacts including airworthiness documentation, safety assessments, certification evidence, release recommendations and test plans. Where data gaps existed, RED performed independent analysis or developed additional evidence to strengthen the technical cases. Our specialists provided expert guidance on material behaviour, deployment characteristics, load interactions and rigging configurations to ensure safe operation in a range of conditions.
RED also supported ground and flight trials, advising on test design, risk management, instrumentation requirements and evidence capture. By offering an impartial view, we enabled MOD teams to challenge supplier assumptions, validate performance claims, and ensure that all systems remained safe, reliable and fit for operational use. The result was a tailored, technically rigorous solution that reinforced airworthiness and improved confidence across aerial delivery programmes.
Structured approach
Delivery began with a review of existing aerial delivery documentation, certification evidence and programme requirements. RED worked closely with MOD stakeholders to identify assurance gaps, clarify responsibilities and prioritise areas needing immediate attention. Independent engineering assessments were conducted on OEM data, supplemented by modelling, calculation checks and technical evaluations. Ground and flight trial support followed a structured approach: RED assisted with test planning, produced hazard assessments, attended trials and verified that evidence produced met the required standards.
We facilitated stakeholder engagement through regular reviews, technical workshops and clear, actionable reporting. RED ensured compliance with MOD airworthiness policy by aligning all activities with DAA regulations and applicable JSPs. Throughout the programme, communication remained open and consistent, enabling the MOD to make informed decisions at key milestones and strengthening governance across the aerial delivery lifecycle.
Robust, reliable results
RED’s involvement improved the robustness and reliability of aerial delivery assurance activities, enabling safe and timely progression through key certification and release milestones. MOD teams now benefit from clearer technical evidence, stronger airworthiness documentation and enhanced confidence in supplier outputs—helping to ensure that aerial delivery systems remain safe, compliant and operationally dependable.
