The challenge

Arlanis Reply was involved by a leading media and communications company in the implementation of internal automation that could interpolate different systems in the application landscape to manage the deletion of customer master records.
The project was the pilot of a complete renewal of technologies in the company's IT infrastructure, which included the abandonment of technologies previously in use in favor of the adoption of MuleSoft.
Through the use of market-leading MuleSoft, an automated process was developed on a multilayer architecture based on an API-led approach, capable of interfacing with the company's various legacy systems and involving the coexistence of cloud and on-premise environments.

The solution

The implemented solution involved the creation of a cancellation registry, a database of information related to the cancellation of customer master records, combined with an orchestration process based on MuleSoft. An integration platform that enabled the development of an automated process based on an APi-led approach.
The Deletion Registry and orchestration process integrates with all systems that possess user deletion information. Master information is deleted voluntarily by users or according to obsolescence criteria defined by the client company. Using the API-led process, the system can automatically integrate with all of the company's legacy systems and delete consumer information that falls under the deletion logic defined above.

Using MuleSoft software, the customer has APIs for requesting user deletions, either through a point deletion channel or a bulk deletion channel. This makes it possible to overcome the silo structure of the various platforms in the enterprise ecosystem, which are isolated and unable to automatically communicate with each other. In addition, MuleSoft software provides powerful performance monitoring tools, which allow call response times to be monitored and action to be taken to increase overall performance.

Mulesoft

Mulesoft, a market leader recognized by Gartner as a major player in API Management Life Cycle and ESB As a Service, enables overcoming an outdated concept of point-to-point integration between systems by providing a multilayer integration logic based on the API concept.

APIs are organized on different levels, consistent with the frequency of updates and the systems they support. We identify the 3 main levels as follows: System API, Processes API, and <>.

Each of these layers serves a corresponding layer whose update requirement varies depending on the "closeness" to the end user moving from data to processes to end with channels.

This architecture makes it possible to decouple the static nature of legacy systems from the dynamic nature of higher layers that must respond to an increasing need for user experience adaptation.

The benefits

Reduction in manual effort

The implementation of the deletion registry based on the MuleSoft integration platform has remediated a lack of automated process within the client's business environment that handled the deletion request through manual and inefficient processes based on email communications between departments.

GDPR compliance & security standard

The solution brought benefits from a security and compliance standpoint, as the company was able to be more responsive to GDPR rules by decreasing the speed of completion of requests from users regarding the right to be forgotten. An authentication pattern was also built following the latest industry best practices, in which clients authenticate themselves by issuing credential tokens. This made it possible to build a solution with higher levels of security.

Process unification

With the implementation, it was possible to unify business processes across systems by adapting them to a standard API-based process that provides greater scalability, flexibility and governance

Data quality

The deletion process was done manually, so it was only possible to delete users who made a direct request for deletion. With the proposed solution it was possible to set up automatic deletion logics due to unused and obsolete criteria improving system performance and reducing the storage space needed, which led to an improvement in data quality.

The context

The leading Italian company active and operating in the media industry was the stage for a major software migration, a process of internal overhaul, and software migration from the current vendor in favor of MuleSoft.
As part of this migration, several legacy systems in the company's ecosystem were integrated using MuleSoft's scalable and reliable Ipaas software-based solution, and procedures previously performed manually by operators were implemented and automated. Arlanis Reply supported the company in this major turnaround for the enterprise IT landscape.
