Digitization in the
Manufacturing Industry

Storm Reply and the IESE Business School are looking for research participants

Manufacturing and digitalization

A snapshot of the digitalization of the German Manufacturing Industry, seen through the lens of 2021 – this is the aim of a project at IESE Business School.

In collaboration with Storm Reply a group of six managers is conducting a research project as part of their Executive MBA . The students come from a range of backgrounds and currently hold roles at companies such as Telefonica, Medtronic, Siemens and Xitaso. While the Team is diverse, they share one thing: a passion for technology and digitalization.

For this project, Storm Reply and the IESE Business School are inviting members of the German Manufacturing Industry to get in contact with or for a one hour interview – in the service of science and education.

The Project

The aim of this research project is to provide a snapshot of the digitalization process in the German Manufacturing Industry in 2021

Two main topics will be tackled within the context of a 60 to 90-minute discussion. The first one aims to define the current position of the interviewee’s company according to the six Industry 4.0 application levels as identified by the VDMA (German Engineering Federation).
The second topic explores where the interviewees see their companies in two to four years, and what they consider the key technological enablers and blockers to this development.

Interviewees will also be invited to attend a virtual roundtable event in April, with external speakers, to learn the results of the project, and to discuss the key themes of the report with the students and with each other.

Who can participate?

The focus of this study are innovative companies in the German manufacturing space. No matter if the company is already adopting industry 4.0, or just seeing a huge potential to do so in terms of value creation or market disruption – please reach out! Decision makers, drivers of digitalization or planners of strategic digital change in some other way are vital for this research.

Data Privacy is guaranteed

It is of the utmost importance that the data of those taking part in the research is treated with the respect and sensitivity it deserves. Information from the interviews will be reviewed and anonymized before being collated into a report. Furthermore, data will be handled only by the six IESE students and will not be shared outside of this group.

This includes not sharing PII data in any form with Storm Reply or other third parties. The IESE students will delete any PII data collected as part of this study within 30 days after the project has been completed, or earlier, should an interviewee request it.

Sharing a passion for technology

Taking part in this research project will not only feed into a high-quality report that will be of value to the participants and their organisation, but the time and insights will also be enriching the learning experience of the six highly motivated and engaged MBA students. Get in contact with or
