Case Study

Managing resilience and scalability in a multicloud environment

Arcese chooses multicloud and Reply to ensure the overall efficiency and reliability of its mission critical infrastructures.

THE CHALLENGE

Ensure the operational continuity of order management systems and logistic carriers in a high-performance and stable multicloud environment.

The context

A business on a global scale that does not allow interruptions

Arcese is a leading Italian company in the field of logistics and international transport, with more than 70 offices around the world. To better manage scalability, resilience and its global reach, the group has chosen to migrate its mission critical infrastructures to the cloud, bringing to the Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud databases all the systems for introducing and tracking orders, logistics and carrier tracking.

The decision to opt for two different Public Cloud Service Providers has allowed Arcese to enable a multicloud scenario, a solution that is increasingly widespread among large companies that want to ensure greater reliability and security to their IT infrastructures.

THE SOLUTION

A highly reliable multicloud architecture

To support the company in the migration of Microsoft SQL Server databases, related order handling and logistics applications, Go Reply and Cluster Reply worked closely together to design, implement and migrate cloud infrastructures. The main objective was to develop a highly reliable cluster database in a high-performance and stable multicloud context, sharing the best practices related to Azure and Google Cloud. Thanks to this solution, Arcese will guarantee the operational continuity of its systems in the event of potential infrastructure disasters: if the virtual machines that host the Google Cloud databases are affected, the available applications are immediately channelled to Azure, without any interruption to business operations.

HOW DID WE DO IT

IaC for cloud and application code consistency

To support Arcese in the delivery and next phase of the maintenance of multicloud environments, Reply adopted the IaC (Infrastructure as Code) approach for the entire architecture. This has made it possible to ensure consistency between what is present on the cloud and on the application code, simplifying the delivery activities of Google and Azure Cloud environments and reducing the time needed to correct any manual configuration errors. This made it possible to implement Reply's cloud best practices to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability in Arcese's multicloud infrastructure.

Google and Azure Managed Service

To help Arcese in the maintenance of the multicloud environment, Go Reply and Cluster Azure established a joint Managed Service Operation team, providing 24x7 with On-Call availability support for the customer. The MSP team leverages Reply extensive capabilities and experience in the cloud operations, targeting the Service Level Agreement agreed.
