In the first step of the project, Portaltech Reply performed a SAP Hybris replatforming of Lavazza’s store, working closely with the customer's IT department. The main reason of this operation was the need for a scalable platform to be easily integrated with other systems, multicountry and multichannel, that could flexibly respond to business demands, such as promotions and launches of ad hoc products.
In this first step, entirely managed through SAP Hybris, Portaltech Reply has dealt with both backend and front end management.
The need to have a platform to enable multicountry management was matched during the project, as after Italy the store was brought to two other countries using the same platform but implementing new developments and integrations in order to adapt it to national differences: UK and Germany. Further launches are planned.
During these operations, it has emerged how easy it is for the platform to manage diversity across the different countries, such as for different catalogues and products, different payment providers, payment methods and taxation modes.
During the second step, which saw a greater involvement of the business, an integration with Adobe has been implemented, migrating the CMS management together with the front end and contents management from SAP Hybris. Backend management was instead maintained on SAP Hybris.
In this second step, there has also been the implementation of some new features, important for the expansion of Lavazza's offer towards its eCommerce customers.
During the project, Portaltech Reply also managed the integration with a customer identity management platform, which allows the company to manage the user database and the registration and login phases.
Also this element is seen in multichannel perspective: in the future, this unified database enables users to access the various channels that will be implemented by Lavazza with a single profile.
Established in 1895 in Turin, the Italian roaster has been owned by the Lavazza family for four generations. In sixth place in the world ranking of roasters, the Group currently operates in more than 90 countries through subsidiaries and distributors, exporting 60% of its production. Lavazza employs a total of about 3,000 people — after the Carte Noire acquisition — with a turnover of more than €1.9 billion in 2016. Lavazza invented the concept of blending — or in other words the art of combining different types of coffee from different geographical areas — in its early years and this continues to be a distinctive feature of most of its products.
